About the Role

Transport Planner  

Groupage & Pallet Network

Warrington

£35,000 - £40,000 (depending on experience)

Monday – Friday, 08:30 – 17:00 / 14:00 – 22:00 (rotates weekly)

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Transport Planner to join a well-established and growing haulage business specialising in general haulage, groupage movements and pallet network distribution.

This is a fast-paced and hands-on planning role, ideal for someone who thrives in a busy transport office and enjoys problem-solving in a live operational environment.

As Transport Planner, you will be responsible for the effective routing and coordination of vehicles and drivers, ensuring maximum efficiency, service performance and compliance with all relevant transport legislation.

You will play a key role in managing daily operations, maintaining strong communication with drivers and customers, and ensuring delivery targets are consistently achieved.

The Candidate;

  • Transport route planning experience
  • Proven experience in transport planning within general haulage, groupage or pallet network operations
  • Strong route planning and geographical knowledge of the UK
  • Experience working in a busy, time-sensitive transport office
  • Good understanding of LGV weights, dimensions and terminology
  • Confident working with transport management systems and IT systems
  • Able to make decisions under pressure and adapt to changing priorities
  • Strong communicator with drivers, customers and colleagues
  • Proactive, organised and solutions-focused
  • Committed to delivering high levels of customer service and continuous improvement

Duties and Responsibilities;

  • Planning and optimising routes for general haulage, groupage and pallet network deliveries
  • Review driver routes and plan to maximise efficiency
  • Managing daily vehicle and driver allocations
  • Monitoring live operations and reacting quickly to delays or changes
  • Ensuring compliance with Driver Hours, Working Time Directive and all transport legislation
  • Liaising with drivers to pre-brief and debrief daily runs
  • Acting as the key communication link between drivers, customers and internal teams
  • Proactively managing service failures and keeping customers informed
  • Allocating jobs and issuing clear instructions to drivers
  • Monitoring fleet availability and addressing operational issues
  • Troubleshooting and resolving transport-related challenges in real time
  • Keep all customers informed of all failed services or significant delays
