Job Specification: Medical Summariser
Location: Medical Centre, Preston
Contract: Initial 3-month Temp contract with the possibility of extension
Salary: £16.00 - £17.50 per hour

Aspion are seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented Medical Summariser to join a medical team at a busy medical centre in Preston. The successful candidate will be responsible for summarising patient medical records, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information is entered into the practice management system. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to the overall efficiency of the practice while maintaining high standards of patient care. The initial contract will be for 3 months with the possibility of an extension based on performance and the centre's ongoing needs.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and summarise patient medical notes, history, and other clinical documents to ensure completeness and accuracy within the practice management system.
  • Accurately enter summarised information from medical records, including diagnoses, medications, allergies, and previous treatments, into the electronic health records (EHR) system.
  • Work closely with GPs, medical secretaries, and other healthcare professionals to ensure that all summarised records are up to date and complete.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ensure the privacy of all patient information in compliance with the GDPR and medical data protection regulations.
  • Verify that patient records are correctly summarised and that any discrepancies or gaps in information are flagged and addressed.
  • Provide administrative support to the medical team as needed, such as helping with patient appointments, communications, or general office duties.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Proven experience working within a healthcare setting (medical summarisation, administrative roles, or medical secretarial experience).
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology and familiarity with clinical records.
  • Proficient in using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and other healthcare management software.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to manage large volumes of data with accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to data protection regulations (GDPR).

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in a medical summarising role or working within a GP surgery, hospital, or medical centre environment.
  • Familiarity with NHS systems (e.g., EMIS, SystmOne) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of medical coding or coding software.
