Freight Forwarder

A thrilling opportunity has arisen for a new position with a leading freight forwarding company, seeking an experienced Freight Forwarder. This role focuses on managing the full freight forwarding process to ensure the efficient and compliant movement of goods across international borders.
We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in freight forwarding, covering either import or export operations, ideally with exposure to alcohol or excise goods handling.
The Candidate;
• Experience in end-to-end freight forwarding operations
• Strong knowledge of import and/or export logistics
• Previous experience dealing directly with clients in road transport, sea freight, or air freight
• Familiarity with freight and customs software, such as Destin8 and Descartes
• A high level of attention to detail to ensure compliance with HMRC and international regulations, including risk identification and mitigation
• Background within logistics, shipping, freight forwarding, or customs clearance
• Working knowledge of HMRC requirements and international trade procedures
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for liaising with clients, suppliers, customs, and internal teams
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage and prioritise multiple shipments and deadlines
• A proactive approach to customer service
• Ability to work under pressure and make competent decisions quickly
Duties and Responsibilities;
• Manage the coordination of import and export shipments from booking through to final delivery
• Use freight and customs software, including Destin8 and Descartes, to track and process shipments
• Prepare and process shipping documentation including CMR, EUR1, ATR, and other transit documents
• Liaise with HMRC and other relevant authorities to ensure compliant movement of goods
• Apply knowledge of VAT, incoterms, and excise duties where relevant
• Monitor exchange rates and freight charges to ensure accurate costings
• Understand and manage import/export quotas and commodity codes
• Meet deadlines while working in a fast-paced, time-critical environment
• Utilise internal systems to track and manage shipments efficiently
• Maintain clear communication with all parties involved in the supply chain including customers, hauliers, and overseas agents
