An established equipment rental business is expanding its specialist hire division and is looking for a Business Development Manager to support its continued growth.

The company provides technical equipment and rental solutions to customers across construction, utilities, manufacturing and wider industrial markets. This position offers considerable autonomy, strong internal support and the opportunity to develop a growing national customer base.

The Role

The Business Development Manager will win new business, develop existing accounts and identify opportunities across a national sales territory. Working alongside sales, operations and technical colleagues, the successful candidate will provide commercially appropriate equipment-hire solutions while building a sustainable pipeline of profitable business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage a territory sales plan to achieve revenue and new-business targets.
  • Identify, approach and secure new customers across relevant industrial and construction markets.
  • Grow existing accounts through effective relationship management, cross-selling and upselling.
  • Manage the sales process from initial enquiry through to quotation and operational handover.
  • Conduct customer meetings and site visits to understand technical and commercial requirements.
  • Promote a broad range of equipment rental, temporary-power and associated hire solutions.
  • Maintain an accurate pipeline of qualified sales opportunities.
  • Work closely with internal sales, technical and operational teams on customer requirements.
  • Provide ongoing account management to encourage customer retention and repeat revenue.

Person Specification

  • Experience in field sales, business development, account management or technical sales.
  • A record of generating new business and developing existing customer accounts.
  • Experience selling into construction, utilities, manufacturing, engineering, industrial or related markets.
  • Candidates from equipment rental, plant hire, tool hire, powered access, generator hire, temporary power or similar sectors would be particularly relevant.
  • Commercially focused, self-motivated and comfortable managing a territory independently.
  • Strong communication, relationship-building and negotiation skills.
  • Able to understand customers’ operational requirements and coordinate suitable solutions.
  • Based in the North West and willing to travel nationally.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Direct experience in temporary power or specialist equipment rental would be advantageous but is not essential. Applications are welcomed from commercially successful field sales professionals working in related technical or industrial markets.

Benefits

  • £45,000–£50,000 basic salary.
  • Uncapped commission scheme.
  • Company car.
  • Pension and private healthcare.
  • 25 days’ annual leave.
  • Enhanced family-friendly benefits.
  • Flexible field-based working.
  • Comprehensive training and ongoing development.
  • Career progression within a growing international organisation.
