  • Oversee workshop planning, scheduling and resource allocation across the fleet.
  • Improve workshop efficiency and reduce vehicle downtime.
  • Monitor workshop performance, identifying opportunities to improve productivity and service delivery.
  • Ensure consistency of maintenance standards across multiple locations.

Compliance & Engineering Standards

  • Maintain oversight of DVSA compliance and Operator Licence requirements.
  • Ensure maintenance schedules, inspections and record keeping meet legislative requirements.
  • Support audit preparation and ensure workshops remain inspection ready.
  • Promote a strong culture of compliance and best practice throughout the engineering function.

Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor and support Garage Managers and senior engineering staff.
  • Develop engineering capability through coaching, training and succession planning.
  • Oversee apprenticeship programmes and encourage skills development across the business.
  • Foster accountability, professionalism and high performance within workshop teams.

Cost Control & Supplier Management

  • Monitor workshop expenditure and identify opportunities to improve cost efficiency.
  • Manage supplier relationships to ensure quality, service and value for money.
  • Support long-term fleet maintenance and capital investment planning.

Systems & Continuous Improvement

  • Ensure workshop management systems are used effectively and consistently.
  • Promote structured processes and eliminate inefficient working practices.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance workshop performance, compliance and operational resilience.

What We're Looking For

  • Significant experience in HGV, commercial vehicle or fleet engineering management.
  • Previous experience leading multi-site or large-scale workshop operations.
  • Strong knowledge of DVSA regulations and Operator Licence compliance.
  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to develop high-performing teams.
  • Excellent planning, organisational and decision-making skills.
  • Commercially aware with experience managing budgets and operational costs.
  • Strong systems and process management skills with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • A calm, proactive and solutions-focused leadership style.

What's on Offer

  • Salary of £60,000 - £70,000 depending on experience.
  • Company pension scheme.
  • 28 days annual leave including Bank Holidays.
  • Permanent, full-time position.
  • Opportunity to lead and shape engineering standards across a growing organisation.
  • A senior leadership role with genuine influence over operational strategy and future development.
