About the Role

Mechanical Design Engineer 

Location: Bolton

Salary: £40,000 – £50,000 + benefits (dependent on experience)

A well established machinery manufacturer designing and building bespoke innovative machinery solutions and equipment used by customers worldwide. The business has built a strong reputation for equipment quality, innovation, and customer service.

 

The Role

This is a unique opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer to take full ownership of mechanical design within the business.

The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for the design and development of bespoke machinery and automation systems from concept through to manufacture, testing and installation.

The Mechanical Design Engineer will design new machinery from scratch, lead concept development, prototyping and R&D, and take designs through to manufacture.

The Mechanical Design Engineer must be proficient in Autodesk Inventor and Vault.

They are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer who is comfortable on the workshop floor and involved with machine builds as they are designing on screen.

The is roles involves design machinery, solving engineering challenges and seeing your ideas move from concept through to manufacture and final build.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Design bespoke machinery from concept through to manufacture
  • Produce 3D models, assemblies and detailed drawings using Autodesk Inventor
  • Lead R&D, prototyping and new machine development
  • Design sheet metal and stainless-steel fabricated components
  • Ensure designs are practical, efficient and manufacturable
  • Support machine build, test, installation and commissioning phases
  • Contribute ideas to improve machine performance, build quality and efficiency

 

Requirements

  • Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent qualifications
  • At least 3 year’s experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer within a machinery manufacturing environment
  • Background designing bespoke machinery, conveyors or handling equipment
  • Strong experience using Autodesk Inventor and Vault
  • Experience managing designs through the full project lifecycle, from concept through to manufacture and installation
  • Experience designing with stainless steel
  • Good understanding of manufacturing processes and materials
  • Experience with sheet metal design

The successful Machine Shop Manager must have a proven track record of building, setting up or significantly developing a machine shop operation. The Machine Shop Manager will take responsibility for developing the department, introducing effective CNC processes and supporting the installation and commissioning of new machinery at the recently acquired site. They need a Machine Shop Manager with a hands on machine shop background who understands CNC machining, someone who is comfortable working on the shop floor and willing to get involved. The Machine Shop Manager will initially manage a machine shop team of 6, with responsibility for people, machinery, materials, quality and production performance. As the site develops, the department is expected to grow and eventually include an onsite maintenance team.
