About the Role
Mechanical Maintenance Engineer (Day Shift with Shift Cover)
Location: Inner Birmingham
Salary: Competitive + Overtime + Benefits
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time
Are you a proactive, hands-on Mechanical Maintenance Engineer looking to develop your career in a fast-paced, heavy industrial environment?
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a well-established manufacturing business where you will play a key role in maintaining and improving critical production equipment. The role combines responsibilities typically found in Mechanical Maintenance Technician and Annealing Engineer positions, offering variety, technical challenge, and long-term development.
The position is primarily day shift, however you will also be expected to support the maintenance team by providing 4 on / 4 off shift cover for holidays and sickness when required.

Key Responsibilities:
- Act as a key point of contact for annealing maintenance operations, processes, TPM, and contractors to ensure smooth operation and maximum equipment availability.
- Support and comply with company Health, Safety & Environmental policies, risk assessments, and SOPs.
- Provide hands-on mechanical and technical support for annealing operations and site maintenance across other production lines.
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and TPM activities, while responding effe ctively to breakdowns.
- Monitor and analyse equipment performance to drive continuous improvement and improved reliability.
- Liaise with production and engineering teams to coordinate maintenance work with minimal disruption.
- Manage, coach, and develop apprentices, playing an active role in their technical progression.
- Ensure spare parts availability and manage contractors on site, ensuring compliance with company standards.
- Provide technical input on engineering projects, upgrades, and new equipment installations.
Requirements:
- Time-served with relevant Mechanical Engineering qualifications (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, BTEC; HNC desirable).
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in medium to heavy industrial maintenance environments.
- Strong knowledge of fluid power systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, fabrication, and machine shop activities.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic drawings.
- Experience with annealing, induction furnaces, casting, or rolling equipment is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team, with flexibility to provide 4 on / 4 off shift cover when required.
