We are currently recruiting for an experienced Band Saw Operative to join a busy steel processing environment. This is a key role within the production team, responsible for accurately cutting steel materials to specification and ensuring high levels of efficiency, quality, and safety.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience operating band saws within a steel or metal manufacturing environment, with a strong understanding of material handling and production processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operating band saw machinery to cut steel to required specifications
  • Reading and working from cutting lists and production schedules
  • Handling and preparing steel materials safely and efficiently
  • Carrying out basic maintenance and checks on equipment
  • Ensuring accuracy of cuts and minimising material waste
  • Maintaining a safe and organised working environment
  • Working closely with the production team to meet deadlines

Key Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Band Saw Operative essential
  • Ability to read and interpret cutting lists or basic technical instructions
  • Strong awareness of health & safety procedures
  • Good attention to detail and accuracy
  • Reliable and team-focused approach
  • Experience within a steel stockholding or processing environment desirable

This is a hands on role working with heavy plate and structural fabrication, with a strong focus on quality workmanship and precision welding. The ideal candidate will have experience working within heavy fabrication, and ideally exposure to pressure vessels or similar high-spec, regulated environments. We are also open to considering more junior Plater/Welders who have solid heavy plate experience and are looking to develop their skills further within a supportive, training-focused environment. Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer Location: Walsall Salary: £50,000 - £70,000 DOE Industry: Metal Recycling Reference: MMT-DB Our client, a well-established, family run metal recycling business that is continuing to grow strongly within the sector, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Multiskilled Maintenance Engineer to join their team. This is a hands on role combining both machine operation and maintenance responsibility, working at the heart of their cable granulation operation. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating a cable granulation machine on a daily basis while also carrying out preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and fault-finding to ensure maximum efficiency and minimal downtime. This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanically and electrically qualified engineer who enjoys a mix of hands-on production and technical problem solving. Key Responsibilities Operate the cable granulation machine safely and efficiently on a daily basis. Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across machinery and equipment. Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults as they arise. Minimise downtime by responding quickly to machine breakdowns. Strip down, inspect, repair, and reassemble machinery components where required. Monitor machine performance and identify opportunities for efficiency improvements. Ensure all work is carried out in line with health & safety procedures. Work closely with production teams to maintain smooth operational flow. Maintain accurate maintenance records and logs. Support continuous improvement initiatives across the site. Key Skills & Experience Degree (or equivalent qualification) in Mechanical and Electrical Maintenance Engineering or similar discipline. Strong understanding of both mechanical and electrical systems. Proven experience in fault-finding and maintenance within a production or heavy industrial environment. Comfortable operating machinery as part of daily responsibilities. Experience within recycling, manufacturing, or heavy industry preferred. Strong diagnostic and problem solving skills. This is a key role responsible for the end-to-end management of the finance function, combining day-to-day transactional oversight with ownership of cash flow, reporting, and financial controls. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in a hands-on environment and can take full ownership of financial processes while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and strong governance.
