Group Quality Lead / QHSE Manager
Location: Sheffield (Travel locally and to site required)

We are looking for an experienced Group Quality Lead / QHSE Manager to oversee and strengthen quality standards across a group of engineering and manufacturing sites in the Sheffield area on behalf of my client who is growing.
Although this is a wider QHSE position, the primary focus will be on Quality Management, internal auditing, ISO compliance, and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will take ownership of the group’s quality systems, ensuring processes remain compliant, effective, and consistently applied across all sites.
The business specialises in mechanical handling and fabrication engineering, delivering projects across design and engineering, fabrication, welding, machining, painting, assembly, testing, installation, and commissioning.
Experience within a similar engineering environment is essential. Exposure to defence or nuclear projects, or experience working to BS EN 1090 Execution Class 3, would be highly desirable!
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and maintain the Group Quality Management System across multiple local sites.
- Plan, conduct and manage internal quality audits in line with ISO standards.
- Ensure continued compliance with ISO 9001 and support wider environmental and health and safety standards where required.
- Lead external certification, surveillance and customer audits.
- Identify areas of non-conformance and ensure corrective and preventative actions are implemented effectively.
- Manage audit findings, root-cause investigations and continuous improvement activities.
- Review and develop quality policies, procedures, work instructions and supporting documentation.
- Ensure quality standards are consistently followed across engineering, fabrication, machining, welding, assembly and site operations.
- Monitor quality performance, identify trends and report findings to the senior leadership team.
- Work closely with operational, engineering and project teams to embed a strong quality culture.
- Support supplier quality assessments and ensure subcontractors meet the required standards.
- Maintain quality records, certification, inspection documentation and project-specific quality plans.
- Ensure projects meet customer, contractual and regulatory quality requirements.
- Support QHSE activities across the wider group, with Quality remaining the main area of responsibility.
- Promote best practice and continuous improvement across all sites.
Essential Experience and Qualifications
- Qualified Lead Auditor, ideally for ISO 9001.
- NEBOSH Health and Safety qualified.
- Strong experience managing internal audit programmes and Quality Management Systems.
- Previous experience within a mechanical engineering, heavy engineering, fabrication or manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of processes including fabrication, welding, machining, assembly, testing, installation or commissioning.
- Strong working knowledge of ISO standards and quality compliance requirements.
- Experience managing non-conformances, corrective actions and root-cause investigations.
- Ability to work across multiple sites and influence teams at all levels.
- Strong written skills, with experience producing procedures, audit reports and quality documentation.
- Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel between local sites.
Desirable Experience
- Experience working within the defence or nuclear sectors, or supplying into highly regulated industries.
- Knowledge of BS EN 1090 Execution Class 3 structural steelwork requirements.
- Experience working with welding quality standards and associated documentation.
- Knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
- Experience with project quality plans, inspection and test plans, welding documentation and material traceability.
- Previous experience in a group-level or multi-site quality position.
Full Package
- Salary – Negotiable depending on experience
- Hours – Monday | Thursday 07:30am – 4:30pm / Friday 08:00am – 2pm

The Ideal Candidate
You will be a hands-on and confident quality professional who can take ownership of quality standards across the group. You will be comfortable working within operational engineering environments, conducting detailed audits and challenging existing processes where improvements are required.
You will need to communicate effectively with everyone from shop-floor employees and engineers through to senior leadership, customers and external auditors. This role would suit someone who is passionate about quality and wants the authority to improve systems, raise standards and create consistency across multiple sites.
