Job Overview 

The Account Manager will report to the Hire Divisional Director and take responsibility for developing an existing customer portfolio while generating new generator hire business. Success will be measured through profitable revenue growth, customer retention, hire utilisation, accurate forecasting and the conversion of new commercial opportunities.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Manage and grow an established portfolio of generator hire and temporary power customers.
  • Generate new business through prospecting, networking, referrals and customer visits.
  • Understand customer requirements and recommend suitable generators, electrical distribution equipment and supporting services.
  • Prepare quotations, negotiate hire rates and convert opportunities at commercially sustainable margins.
  • Conduct site surveys and advise on generator sizing and temporary power requirements.
  • Coordinate with engineering, transport and operations teams to ensure equipment is delivered, installed and collected on schedule.
  • Maximise contract value and hire utilisation through account development and cross-selling.
  • Promote fuel management, load banks, lighting towers, distribution equipment and service packages.
  • Build accurate sales forecasts and maintain high-quality customer and activity data within the CRM.
  • Monitor competitor activity, market trends and opportunities across key target sectors.

Person Specification 

  • Previous experience in account management, business development, hire sales or commercial sales.
  • Ideally experienced within generator hire, temporary power, plant hire, powered access, tool hire or construction equipment.
  • Knowledge of diesel generators, temporary power systems or electrical distribution equipment would be advantageous.
  • Experience selling into construction, industrial, healthcare, infrastructure, utilities, events or facilities management customers.
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to negotiate rates, protect margin and identify account growth opportunities.
  • Confident managing both existing accounts and self-generated new business.
  • Customer-focused, organised and capable of coordinating time-critical hire requirements.
  • Comfortable using CRM systems, Microsoft Office and sales forecasting tools.
  • Full UK driving licence.
