Transport Contract Manager

Silvertown, East London

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Contract & Transport Manager to take ownership of a newly awarded logistics contract in Silvertown. Working for a leading UK bulk transport specialist, you will oversee the operational, commercial and compliance performance of a key food-sector operation involving non-ADR tanker movements.

You will lead the day-to-day transport operation, managing drivers, vehicles, resources and customer service while ensuring strong compliance, efficiency and financial performance. This is a great opportunity to build and develop a team, take ownership of a key site and play a major role in the successful delivery of a new customer contract.

Requirements:

  • International Transport Manager CPC – essential
  • Previous experience within a ADR or Non ADR tanker haulage operation is highly desirable
  • Strong knowledge of Operator Licence compliance and transport legislation
  • Experience managing busy, high-volume transport operations
  • Previous experience within a 24/7 logistics environment
  • Experience managing drivers, fleet capacity and transport planning
  • Strong customer and stakeholder management skills
  • Commercial awareness with experience managing budgets, forecasting and KPIs
  • The ability to lead, develop and build operational teams
  • Experience working within a unionised environment would be highly advantageous
  • Previous tanker, bulk transport, food logistics or FMCG experience would be particularly desirable
  • IOSH and/or HACCP qualifications would be advantageous

Responsibilities:

  • Taking responsibility for the site's Operator Licence compliance, ensuring all O Licence undertakings, transport legislation and internal policies are adhered to.
  • Acting as the nominated Transport Manager and ensuring robust compliance systems and controls are maintained.
  • Leading, developing and building the local transport and operational team.
  • Managing the mobilisation and ongoing performance of a newly awarded customer contract.
  • Taking overall responsibility for site and contract performance, including service levels, operational delivery and customer satisfaction.
  • Managing drivers, vehicles, fleet capacity, agency labour and subcontracted transport resources.
  • Developing effective transport plans to maximise fleet and driver utilisation while maintaining high levels of customer service.
  • Managing capacity planning and responding effectively to changes in customer volumes and operational requirements.
  • Building a strong working relationship with the customer and holding regular operational and performance reviews.
  • Managing contract KPIs, service levels and customer cost reporting.
  • Monitoring operational expenditure and managing the site within agreed budgets.
  • Supporting forecasting, budgeting and wider P&L management.
  • Identifying opportunities to reduce cost, improve utilisation and increase operational efficiency.
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives across the contract.
  • Maintaining high standards of health, safety and compliance throughout the operation.
  • Managing customer complaints and operational issues through to resolution within agreed SLA timescales.
  • Developing strong relationships with internal teams, suppliers, agencies and other external stakeholders.
  • Supporting positive employee relations within a 24/7 transport environment.
  • Providing operational and strategic input to the wider leadership team.
