A leading logistics and transport operation in Southampton is seeking an experienced Transport Manager to join its management team. This is an excellent opportunity for a transport professional with strong leadership skills, operational expertise, and a passion for delivering high levels of service within a fast-paced distribution environment.

The Candidate;

  • Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) or equivalent qualification.
  • Previous experience within a general haulage or pallet network operation
  • Proven experience in a transport management role within a logistics or distribution environment.
  • Strong understanding of the, EU Tachograph Regulations, Working Time Regulations and Road Transport Legislation.
  • Working knowledge of transport management systems and operational planning tools.
  • Commercial awareness with the ability to identify efficiencies and improve profitability.
  • Sound geographical knowledge and route-planning understanding.
  • Strong knowledge of Health and Safety regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Experience managing, motivating and developing teams.
  • Ability to analyse operational data and solve complex logistics challenges.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills.

Duties and Responsibilities;

  • Maximise the utilisation of transport management systems and fleet resources to ensure the effective allocation of drivers, vehicles, loads and trailers.
  • Lead, motivate and develop the transport team to drive productivity, engagement and exceptional customer service.
  • Manage recruitment, onboarding, training and development activities to ensure the department has the right people in the right roles.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and operational teams to improve efficiency and collaboration.
  • Establish and promote effective communication channels with customers and internal departments to enhance performance and profitability.
  • Ensure all operational information is maintained accurately, securely and in accordance with GDPR requirements.
  • Manage driver hours and timesheet approvals, ensuring full compliance with Working Time Regulations and transport legislation.
  • Produce, analyse and review departmental KPIs, identifying trends and implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lead the implementation of safe working practices, housekeeping standards and audit requirements, ensuring compliance with internal and external regulations.
  • Support the delivery of operational objectives while maintaining high standards of service and cost control.
