Transport Manager Builders Merchant Sector Bootle, Liverpool £45,000 - £50,000 Monday - Friday, 07:00 - 17:00 A leading builders merchant is seeking an experienced and hands-on Transport Manager to oversee transport operations across two sites. The successful candidate will manage a fleet of HGV drivers, ensuring efficient delivery of timber, paint, saws, and related products to trade customers across the UK. This is a pivotal role for a business that values autonomy, efficiency, and customer service. The Transport Manager will take responsibility for planning, scheduling, and managing daily transport operations, ensuring timely deliveries, compliance with regulatory requirements, and high levels of customer satisfaction. They will also implement processes to improve operational efficiency and centralize planning across sites. The Benefits: - Annual bonus linked to company performance - Life insurance (3x salary) - Staff discount - Company pension scheme - 25 days holiday plus 8 bank holidays - Closed on public holidays Key Responsibilities: - Manage and plan daily transport operations across multiple sites, coordinating 3-5 runs per truck per day. - Oversee a team of 9 drivers, all Class 2 license holders, ensuring safe and efficient operations. - Allocate workloads and plan deliveries to local and regional customers (including Manchester, Lancaster, and Bradford). - Maintain compliance with O License and other relevant transport regulations. - Monitor fleet performance, fuel usage, and driver schedules. - Ensure clear communication with internal teams and customers regarding delivery schedules. - Implement improvements to planning systems and processes, moving from manual to centralized systems such as Kerridge. - Recruit, train, and support transport staff as required. - Maintain accurate transport records and reports for management review. Required Experience & Qualifications: - Proven experience in transport management, ideally within a builders merchant or similar industry. - Strong background in load planning and vehicle scheduling. - Knowledge of fleet compliance and O License requirements. - Hands-on approach with experience managing Class 2 HGV drivers and vehicles equipped with Hiaab and flatbeds. - Familiarity with transport management systems (Kerridge or similar) is preferred.
