Our client, a growing metal stockholder and processor in Preston, is seeking a reliable and hands on Machine Operator to join their expanding production team. This role is ideal for someone experienced in operating machinery, comfortable working in a warehouse environment, and eager to learn new processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate production machinery safely and efficiently
Set up tooling and assist with changeovers
Monitor quality, output, and complete basic production paperwork
Identify faults, stop machinery safely if required, and escalate issues
Carry out routine cleaning and basic operator maintenance
Work to production targets without compromising safety or quality
Requirements:
Experience operating machinery in a manufacturing or production environment
Good mechanical awareness and a practical, problem-solving mindset
Comfortable with measurements, quality checks, and completing paperwork
Calm under pressure with a positive attitude to safety and standards
Reliable timekeeping and flexibility with tasks and workload
Desirable Skills:
FLT Counterbalance and/or gantry crane license
Steel processing experience
Experience with changeovers, setting, or basic fault-finding
Familiarity with manufacturing quality checks (e.g., micrometers/verniers, visual inspection)
Package Details:
Competitive hourly rate (£12.70 - £13.30 per hour)

A leading logistics provider is seeking a highly organised and proactive Transport Planner to join their UK & Ireland operations team, based in Hull.
This role is central to ensuring seamless logistics and transport operations, managing customer orders from start to finish while maintaining strong relationships with both internal teams and third-party carriers. The ideal candidate will bring a keen eye for detail, excellent planning skills, and a strong customer service mindset.
The Candidate;
Transport route planning experience within a fast paced transport haulage operation
Solid background in transport planning, logistics, or supply chain operations.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Outlook.
Ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
Financial awareness relating to cost control, invoicing, and supplier management.
Working knowledge of customs legislation and compliance standards.
A proactive team player with strong attention to detail and a drive for quality.
Duties and Responsibilities;
Plan and manage transport operations to meet customer expectations and service levels
Process and monitor orders using logistics systems to ensure accuracy and efficiency
Troubleshoot operational issues and implement swift resolutions to maintain service integrity
Collaborate with customers to understand and fulfil their logistics need
Forecast and manage transport volumes while keeping costs optimised
Coordinate with suppliers and third-party hauliers to ensure timely deliveries
Oversee critical loads, special campaigns, and equipment usage to prevent contamination and inefficiencies
Track and report operational KPIs, taking corrective actions as needed
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the planning function

I'm currently recruiting for an experienced Transport Manager to join a well-established, family-run business specialising in bulk tipper operations across the UK.
This is a key leadership role within the business, responsible for the overall management and compliance of the transport operation, including fleet performance, driver management, route planning, and customer service. You'll play a pivotal role in ensuring legal compliance, operational efficiency, and continuous improvement across the transport function.

The Candidate;
- Proven experience in a Transport Manager or Senior Transport role
- Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation, drivers' hours, and compliance requirements
- CPC (Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence) - essential
- Experience managing a transport operation within a fast-paced or seasonal environment
- Background in bulk, tipper, or general haulage operations - highly desirable
- Paragon or similar route planning system experience - desirable
- Strong people management skills with the ability to motivate and develop teams
- Excellent planning, organisational, and decision-making abilities
- Confident communicator, able to engage at all levels internally and externally
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage competing priorities
Duties and Responsibilities;
- Overall management of the transport operation, including own fleet and sub-contractors
- Ensure full compliance with Operator Licence (O-Licence) requirements and transport legislation
- Oversee route planning to maximise efficiency while ensuring compliance with drivers' hours and Working Time Directive
- Manage and develop the transport team, including supervisors, planners, and drivers
- Monitor and manage driver hours, infringements, and compliance, implementing corrective actions where required
- Ensure tachograph data is downloaded, analysed, and acted upon appropriately
- Lead driver performance management, including annual reviews, disciplinaries, and return-to-work meetings
- Identify training needs, manage CPC compliance, and coordinate driver training programmes
- Liaise with customers, sub-contractors, and internal stakeholders to maintain service levels
- Oversee vehicle compliance, defect reporting, maintenance scheduling, and third-party fleet work
- Drive continuous improvement in safety, efficiency, and cost control
- Act as the main point of contact for audits, inspections, and external transport authorities
