About the Role
Maintenance Engineer
Salary: £48,000 to £53,000 + Benefits (dependent on experience)
Location: Newcastle
Shifts: 4 on 4 off (4 days followed by 4 nights)
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Maintenance Engineer to join a well-established FMCG manufacturing site in Newcastle. This role offers the chance to work within a fast-paced production environment supporting the reliability and performance of food manufacturing equipment.
The business produces high volume food products in a clean and well-maintained environment.
The Maintenance Engineer will ensure production equipment runs efficiently while minimising downtime.

The Role
The Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for supporting the reliability of production machinery through both reactive and planned maintenance activities.
Approximately 60 to 70 percent of the role will involve reactive maintenance, with the remaining time focused on planned preventative maintenance and continuous improvement work.
Typical equipment you will be working on includes:
• Industrial ovens (gas and electrical)
• Conveyors
• Multi head weighers
• Check weighers
• Flow wrappers
• Bagging machines
• General automated production equipment
The site operates a mix of newer and older machinery and uses a more traditional maintenance tracking system rather than a CMMS.
Key Responsibilities of the Maintenance Engineer
• Carry out reactive maintenance to minimise downtime across production lines
• Complete planned preventative maintenance tasks
• Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults
• Support continuous improvement projects to improve equipment reliability
• Work closely with production teams to ensure safe and efficient operation of machinery
• Maintain high standards of health and safety within the factory environment
Requirements of the Maintenance Engineer
- Minimum Level 3 NVQ in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
- Mechanical or Electrical bias
- At least 2 years industry experience within maintenance engineering
- Experience within FMCG or food manufacturing environments
- Strong fault-finding ability on production machinery
- Experience carrying out both planned and reactive maintenance
Shift Pattern of the Maintenance Engineer
• 4 on 4 off shift pattern
• Blocks of 4 days followed by 4 nights
