An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Maintenance Engineer to join a well-established FMCG manufacturing site in Newcastle. This role offers the chance to work within a fast-paced production environment supporting the reliability and performance of food manufacturing equipment.

The business produces high volume food products in a clean and well-maintained environment.

The Maintenance Engineer will ensure production equipment runs efficiently while minimising downtime.

The Business:

  • Leading international food manufacturer
  • A large global business with multiple manufacturing sites across the UK, Europe and worldwide
  • Continued investment and growth across its manufacturing sites
  • Stable FMCG manufacturing environment with long term career opportunities
  • Large engineering team providing strong support on shift
  • Opportunity to work on a wide range of automated food production equipment

The Role

The Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for supporting the reliability of production machinery through both reactive and planned maintenance activities.

Approximately 60 to 70 percent of the role will involve reactive maintenance, with the remaining time focused on planned preventative maintenance and continuous improvement work.

• Industrial ovens (gas and electrical)
• Conveyors
• Multi head weighers
• Check weighers
• Flow wrappers
• Bagging machines
• General automated production equipment

The site operates a mix of newer and older machinery and uses a more traditional maintenance tracking system rather than a CMMS.

Key Responsibilities of the Maintenance Engineer

• Carry out reactive maintenance to minimise downtime across production lines
• Complete planned preventative maintenance tasks
• Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults
• Support continuous improvement projects to improve equipment reliability
• Work closely with production teams to ensure safe and efficient operation of machinery
• Maintain high standards of health and safety within the factory environment

Requirements of the Maintenance Engineer

  • Minimum Level 3 NVQ in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Mechanical or Electrical bias
  • At least 2 years industry experience within maintenance engineering
  • Experience within FMCG or food manufacturing environments
  • Strong fault-finding ability on production machinery
  • Experience carrying out both planned and reactive maintenance

Shift Pattern of the Maintenance Engineer

• 4 on 4 off shift pattern
• Blocks of 4 days followed by 4 nights
