Interim Factory General Manager (3 Month contract) FMCG Manufacturing Sector Gateshead £90,000 - £110,000 pro rota + Car allowance An experienced Interim Factory General Manager is required to lead a large food manufacturing operation in Gateshead during a critical period of operational focus and performance improvement. Reporting into the Head of Operations, this role carries full site accountability across Safety, Quality, Cost, Service and People. The successful candidate will provide visible leadership, operational stability and strategic direction while driving performance, engagement and continuous improvement across the factory. This is a hands-on leadership position requiring an individual who can quickly establish credibility, make effective decisions and deliver results within a fast-paced FMCG food manufacturing environment. Key Responsibilities: - Lead all aspects of site operations, ensuring safe, efficient and compliant manufacturing performance. - Drive improvements across productivity, efficiency, waste reduction and operational effectiveness. - Provide leadership and direction to Production, Engineering, Technical, HSE and Warehouse teams. - Take ownership of site budgets, cost control and financial performance. - Ensure the highest standards of food safety, product quality and regulatory compliance. - Lead and support operational improvement and change management initiatives. - Develop and motivate the site leadership team while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. - Maintain strong service levels, ensuring customer requirements are delivered on time and in full. - Support ongoing capital investment, improvement projects and business priorities where required. - Act as the senior site leader, driving engagement and performance across the workforce. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive and organised transport professional to play a key role in planning and managing UK-wide bulk haulage movements, ensuring efficient operations and exceptional customer service. Duties and Responsibilities; - Plan and schedule bulk product movements across the UK. - Monitor and manage driver performance and daily activities. - Conduct driver briefings and debriefings where required. - Collate Proofs of Delivery (PODs) and prepare invoicing summaries. - Ensure all transport jobs are accurately entered into the transport management system. - Review routes and optimise vehicle utilisation to maximise operational efficiency. - Keep customers informed of any service failures, delays, or operational issues. - Manage and coordinate subcontractor activity on a daily basis. - Act as the key communication link between customers and drivers. - Ensure compliance with Driver Hours Regulations and the Working Time Directive. - Investigate service failures and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence. - Deliver consistently high levels of customer service.
