About the Company
We are working with a fast-growing specialist solutions provider in the construction and building services sector. The business is expanding its pre-contract team and is looking for a confident, proactive professional to lead deals from enquiry to order. The role offers the opportunity to work closely with internal and external stakeholders on technically complex projects while influencing commercial outcomes.
The Role
As Commercial Estimator, your primary focus is closing deals and ensuring the smooth progression of opportunities through the pipeline. You will provide technical guidance, liaise with stakeholders to clarify project details, negotiate commercial terms, and implement strategies to maximise success. This role is ideal for someone with a background in estimating, QS, engineering, or technical project management who enjoys a mix of technical problem-solving, commercial negotiation, and relationship management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Progress opportunities through the sales pipeline to ‘closed won’.
- Engage with clients via phone, email, and meetings to support deal closure.
- Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure project details are accurate.
- Identify and unblock stalled deals, leading brainstorms and problem-solving sessions.
- Monitor pipeline health and disqualify opportunities that meet ‘kill’ criteria.
- Provide technical assistance to support proposals and solutions.
- Upsell products and services where appropriate.
- Negotiate commercial terms to finalise deals.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in CRM systems.
- Develop and refine systematic approaches to winning deals (‘win-map’).
- Analyse lost opportunities and implement improvements to increase success rates.
Person Specification
Essential:
- Experience in construction, building services, or a technical project-focused environment.
- Proven track record in deal progression, negotiation, and closing opportunities.
- Technical knowledge relevant to estimating, QS, or project management.
- Strong organisational skills with ability to manage multiple live opportunities.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Analytical mindset with problem-solving capability.
- Degree in Engineering, Building Services, Quantity Surveying, or related field.
- Full driving licence.
Desirable:
- Experience with Tier 1 contractors or specialist subcontracting environments.
- Exposure to roofing, façade, building envelope or M&E systems.
- Professional memberships (AIOR, FIOR, MIOR).
- Previous experience in CRM management or pipeline reporting.
