Mechanical Maintenance Technician

Our client, a specialist producer of high-quality niche alloys, is seeking a skilled and time-served Mechanical Maintenance Technician to join their production site in Birmingham. The facility operates state of the art casting and rolling equipment, supplying rolled metal products to a range of industries.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced mechanical engineer looking to work within a heavy industrial manufacturing environment on a 4 on 4 off shift pattern.
Key Responsibilities:
- Attend plant breakdowns and carry out effective fault diagnosis and repair
- Support plant operations including induction furnaces, automated casting, milling, rolling, annealing, pickling and slitting lines
- Maintain conveyors, pump systems, gearboxes, mechanical transmission systems, and overhead cranes
- Carry out TPM and PPM activities to maximise plant reliability
- Repair, maintain and improve plant equipment to required operational standards
- Undertake installation work and continuous improvement projects as required
- Work effectively both independently and as part of a team
Requirements:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience within a medium to heavy industrial mechanical environment
- Time served Mechanical Engineer with relevant qualifications (City & Guilds, BTEC, NVQ Level 3)
- Strong experience with fluid power systems including HP/LP hydraulics and pneumatics
- Ability to fault-find and troubleshoot mechanical plant equipment
- Experience in basic fabrication and machine shop activities
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic schematic drawings
Desirable Skills:
- HNC in Mechanical Engineering
- Foundry experience
- Experience working within heavy manufacturing or metals processing environments
