Yard Supervisor Location: Morecambe, Lancashire Salary: Up to £50,000 DOE Hours: 07:00-17:00 Monday to Friday Reference: ASPLIV Are you an experienced Supervisor or Team Leader with a background in waste, recycling, quarrying, or another industrial environment? Do you have strong experience managing yard-based operations, coordinating teams, and maintaining high standards of Health & Safety? Would you enjoy a hands-on role with responsibility for the day-to-day running of a busy operational yard? If so, I want to hear from you. Our client, is a well-established, family-run business based in Morecambe, Lancashire, specialising in the processing of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal for both domestic and international markets. This is a hands-on supervisory role where you will be responsible for coordinating the yard team, allocating workloads, managing traffic and ensuring that all operations are completed safely, efficiently, and in line with company procedures. Responsibilities: - Oversee the day-to-day operations of the yard in line with management plans and operational objectives. - Manage, coordinate, and allocate work to yard operatives to ensure workloads are completed efficiently. - Direct traffic within the yard and work closely with the weighbridge to ensure all loads are loaded and unloaded safely and efficiently. - Check incoming and outgoing deliveries for quality and compliance. - Ensure all loads are correctly documented through the weighbridge. - Monitor yard activities to ensure they are carried out in accordance with the Yard Management System. - Maintain high standards of Health & Safety across the yard and ensure procedures are followed by all employees. - Ensure environmental controls and procedures are maintained across the site. - Identify and address operational issues quickly and effectively. - Work closely with management to ensure the yard operates efficiently and meets business objectives. - Support and lead the yard team, promoting a positive and professional working environment. Requirements: - Previous supervisory or management experience within a busy operational environment. - Experience within the waste management industry is essential. - Experience within scrap metal, recycling, quarrying, aggregates, or a similar industrial environment would be advantageous. - Strong understanding of Health & Safety within a yard or industrial setting. - Experience coordinating teams, allocating workloads, and managing day-to-day operations. - Good understanding of environmental regulations and workplace compliance. - Strong organisational and communication skills. - A hands-on approach with the confidence to work alongside operational teams. - Health & Safety and/or environmental qualifications would be advantageous. - Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, physically demanding operational environment. Do you have strong Fanuc programming experience and the ability to programme, set and run jobs from start to finish? Would you enjoy working in a hands-on environment where you can share your knowledge and help develop apprentices and more junior members of the team? If so, I want to hear from you. Our client, a well-established fastener manufacturer based in Telford, is looking to appoint an experienced CNC Lathe Programmer to join their team. The role is primarily focused on CNC turning, although experience with CNC milling would be highly advantageous. Key Responsibilities - Programme, set and operate CNC lathes using Fanuc controls. - Programme directly at the machine, making adjustments and optimising programmes where required. - Take full responsibility for jobs from enquiry through to complete machine set up and production. - Set tooling, offsets and workholding and ensure machines are correctly prepared for production. - Read and interpret engineering drawings, job specifications and technical documentation. - Carry out first-off and in-process inspections to ensure components meet required specifications. - Make programme and tooling adjustments to optimise quality, efficiency and cycle times. - Work with a range of CNC machinery, including Hitachi and Miyano lathes. - Support wider machining activities where required, including CNC milling. - Share technical knowledge and provide guidance and training to apprentices and junior machinists. - Work closely with colleagues to resolve machining issues and identify opportunities for improvement. - Maintain high standards of quality, Health & Safety and housekeeping. Key Requirements - Proven experience as a CNC Lathe Programmer / Setter / Programmer-Operator. - CNC Lathe programming experience is essential. - Strong experience with Fanuc controls. - Strong understanding of engineering drawings, tooling, offsets and machining processes. - CNC milling experience is highly desirable. - Experience with Hitachi or Miyano CNC lathes would be advantageous. - Wider machining experience such as thread rolling, grinding or forging would be beneficial. - Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing quality components. - A proactive approach with the ability to work independently and take ownership of your work. - Someone who is approachable and willing to help and share knowledge with colleagues. - Comfortable supporting and training apprentices and junior members of the team. - Professional, adaptable and open to changes in processes and working practices. - Strong team player with a willingness to contribute ideas and improve the way the business operates. Requirements: - Previous experience within a warehouse, logistics, manufacturing or industrial environment. - Experience in a supervisory or management position; a Team Leader looking to step up into a Warehouse Supervisor/Manager role will be considered. - IOSH or NEBOSH qualification is desirable. - Strong understanding of Health & Safety, risk assessments and safe working practices. - Full UK driving licence is essential. - FLT experience is advantageous. - Strong attention to detail with good numerical and organisational skills. - Computer literate and comfortable maintaining records and producing reports. - Calm and confident under pressure, with a practical and proactive approach. - Excellent personable and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships across warehouse, operations and sales teams. - A strong team player with a hardworking attitude and willingness to learn. - Able to use initiative and bring new ideas to improve the business. - Experience with quality systems, audits, equipment inspections, training records or general site compliance would be advantageous.
